Yusei Kikuchi Over 5.5 Strikeouts -122 (FanDuel)

After struggling mightily last season, Yusei Kikuchi has had a great start to the 2023 season, and he has another advantageous matchup today. The White Sox are early candidates for the most disappointing team in baseball so far, and Kikuchi can make the case much worse today. He has only gone over this number twice this year, and he is in just the 52nd percentile for strikeout percentage, but he is in the 89th in chase rate. The White Sox chase the 2nd most of any team in the MLB with a 33.7% chase rate. While the Sox only strike out a modest 23% of the time to lefties, Kikuchi’s ability to get swings at pitches outside of the zone will help him get over this number.

Domingo German Over 5.5 Strikeouts -128 (FanDuel)

Racking up strikeouts has come naturally to German this season, and I expect him to have another high strikeout total in today’s matchup against the Twins. The first time the Twins saw German this season, he rung up 11 of them at Yankee Stadium. The Twins have a 25.6% strikeout percentage at home and a 24.5% K rate against righties. German is in the 85th percentile in K rate, the 79th in chase rate, and the 90th in Whiff%. Racking up six Ks seems like light work for German today against the Twins.

Hunter Brown Over 4.5 Strikeouts -145 (BetMGM)

Hunter Brown has proved he is the real deal so far, and he has a big test today against the best team in baseball. The Rays strikeout at just a 21% clip against right-handed pitching, but Brown has the stuff to rack up five strikeouts today in Tampa. Brown is a middle-of-the-pack strikeout pitcher in terms of percentile rankings. He is in the 58th percentile in K rate, the 52nd in whiff%, and the 55th in chase rate. However, he has gone over this number in all four of his starts this year, and the Rays strike out more at home than they do on the road. I like Brown to keep up his streak of five or more strikeouts per start today.

Paul Goldschmidt Over 1.5 Total Bases +100 (DraftKings)

In sports betting, it is important not to focus on trends – you are trying to predict what happens in the future, and the past can’t always help you. However, when you look at Goldschmidt’s historicals against Anthony DeSclafani, it is hard not to expect him to continue his success against him. Goldschmidt is 14-27 against him with five doubles, two home runs, and six RBIs. I am not overthinking this one, at plus money, I will take the over and not look back.
