NL Rookie of the Year Favorites
Corbin Carroll, Arizona Diamondbacks (+380) – Carroll played 34 games with the D-Backs last year and finished with a .260 batting average, 27 hits, four home runs, and 14 RBIs. He is listed as the No. 2 overall prospect in baseball and already showed signs that he could contribute on the big league level. Given the D-Backs roster, it is anticipated that Caroll will see action early this season.
Miguel Vargas, Los Angeles Dodgers (+450) – Vargas played 18 big league games last season, ending with eight hits, one home run, and 13 strikeouts with a .170 batting average. He is the No. 48 overall prospect in baseball and the Dodgers’ No. 4 prospect. Vargas is expected to play a lot with the Dodgers this season, but he needs to break out in a major way to justify these odds of him winning this award.
Kodai Senga, New York Mets (+900) – Senga is a rookie in the MLB, but the 30-year-old has been playing professionally in Japan since 2012. Given his professional experience, Senga should have even lower odds of winning this award. He is projected to be the No. 4 starter in the Mets rotation, and if he is able to command his wicked slider, he can make a name for himself immediately.
NL Rookie of the Year Value Bets
Francisco Alvarez, New York Mets (+1800) – Alvarez is the No. 13 overall prospect in baseball, and given the Mets’ need for a catcher, I expect him to play a ton this year. Alvarez has immense power, and he can help the Mets immediately.
Elly De La Cruz, Cincinnati Reds (+1500) – De La Cruz is the No. 6 overall prospect in baseball, and he should get service time early in the 2023 season. The Reds are rebuilding, so they might as well see what they have in this electric, young shortstop. He has yet to play in a big league game, but I expect him to come out strong this season.
NL Rookie of the Year Longshot
Sixto Sanchez, Miami Marlins (N/A) – DraftKings does not have odds for Sanchez to win NL Rookie of the Year, but other books have him around +4000. Sanchez was expected to play a big role for Miami last year until injuries derailed his season before it started. Health is the biggest concern for Sanchez, but when he is rolling, he has elite stuff and warrants consideration for this award.
