The NL West was top-heavy last season, with the Dodgers and Padres making the postseason and facing each other in the playoffs. The Giants finished .500, while the Diamondbacks and Rockies trailed all season long and finished in 4th and 5th place, respectively.
The Dodgers (-125) are the favorite to win the division again, but the Padres (+130) will undoubtedly put up a fight. Los Angeles is still loaded, but they lost Tyler Anderson, Tommy Kahnle, Trae Turner, Craig Kimbrel, Andrew Heaney, Chris Martin, Cody Bellinger, and Justin Turner. They made up for it by signing Noah Syndergaard, J.D. Martinez, and David Peralta.
The Padres are the biggest threat to the Dodgers in the NL West. San Diego spent $384 million in contracts this offseason with standout signings of Xander Bogaerts, Robert Suarez, and Michael Wacha.
The Giants (+1000) won the division in 2021, but that seems like forever ago based on the Dodgers and Padres’ moves since then. San Francisco was busy this offseason, signing Mitch Haniger, Michael Conforto, Taylor Rodgers, Sean Maneas, Ross Stripling, and others to give themselves a shot to compete this season after losing Carlos Rodon.
The Diamondbacks (+5500) made a couple of free agency signings and traded for Gabriel Moreno and Lourden Gurriel Jr. Their win total for the season is 74.5 wins. The Rockies (+18000) have the third-longest odds of any team to win its division, and their win total is set at 65.5 wins. Colorado made just two free-agent signings, lost Carlos Esteves, and did not make any trades.
2023 NL West Bets to Consider
Xander Bogaerts, San Diego Padres, NL MVP (+3500) – Bogaerts opted to sign with the Padres this off-season and joins a star-studded lineup. While he plays with great players, this number seems too high for a guy who is also great.
Clayton Kershaw, Los Angeles Dodgers, NL Cy Young (+5000) – Father time has gotten to Kershaw, but he may have one more vintage season left in his tank.
