MLB Player Props – Best Bets for Monday, 4/24

This past weekend was exciting and full of great MLB action. Today, we have a smaller slate of games, but there is still a great opportunity to look at the MLB Player Props markets – here are our best bets for Monday’s slate.

MLB Player Props – Best Straight Bets

Taj Bradley Over 4.5 Strikeouts -150 (DraftKings)

Taj Bradley came into the season as the Rays’ No. 1 pitching prospect, but he has quickly shown he is as good as any MLB starter right now. Bradley burst onto the scene with an eight-strikeout appearance against the Red Sox, then he followed that up with a nine-strikeout game against the Reds. The Astros are in the middle of the pack in K %, but Bradley’s stuff has proven already to be overwhelming. Bradley also saw an increase in his pitch count from his first start, so if he sees another 10+ pitches, it is hard to see him not going over this number unless Houston jumps on him early, which they have not been doing.

Jordan Montgomery Over 5.5 Strikeouts -104 (FanDuel)

Montgomery is not a strikeout pitcher – he is in the 33rd percentile for K rate, the 28th percentile for chase rate, and the 23rd for Whiff%, but I expect him to go over this lofty number at home against the Giants. San Francisco has a 30.9% K rate against lefties this season and a 68 wRC+, meaning they are struggling to hit left-handed pitching all around. The last time Montgomery pitched against a team that was terrible against lefties, he had nine Ks, so despite his mixed strikeout numbers on a per-game basis, he has a great matchup to rack up some strikeouts tonight.

Matthew Boyd Over 4.5 Strikeouts -148 (BetRivers)

Matthew Boyd has not been getting strikeouts this season, but I think he is due to rack up some tonight. Boyd is in the 23rd percentile in K rate, but he is in the 61st for chase rate and the 55th for whiff%. Boyd is yet to go over this number this year, but this is a great matchup to do so. The Brewers struggle mightily against left-handed pitching. Milwaukee has a 64 wRC+ and a league-leading 32.5% K rate against left-handed pitching his season. The Brewers have been making more contact at home this season, but overall, Boyd is in an advantageous spot to get strikeouts today.

Alex Verdugo Over 1.5 Total Bases +123 (BetRivers)

Alex Verdugo is one of the better lead-off hitters in baseball, and I expect him to have a day against Dean Kremer of the Orioles. Verdugo is 6-16 in his career against Kremer, with two doubles and two home runs. Given where Verdugo bats in the order, he can easily have three at-bats against Kremer, and he has shown he owns this matchup. Verdugo also does not strike out often at all, so he will see a few pitches and give himself the opportunity to hit a ball to the gap tonight.
