MLB Player Props – Best Bets for 5/17

Another day, another loaded, 15-game MLB slate. What are my best bets for today? Let’s dive into some MLB player props we recommend as my best bets for Wednesday, 5/17

MLB Player Props – Best Bets

Drew Smyly Over 3.5 Strikeouts +100 (BetMGM)

The Astros strike out the least against lefties in baseball, and Smyly is not a strikeout pitcher. However, I think Smyly can certainly ring up four Astros today. For starters, Smyly has a 35.5% K rate against the current Astros roster. Houston struck out eight times to the Cubs lefty Justin Steele yesterday, who is in similar percentiles in K rate, whiff%, and chase rate as Smyly. Houston is 20th in wRC+ against lefties, meaning they do not hit them well, and after seeing what Steele did to the Astros, it is clear they do not see left-handed pitching well at all. Asking for four strikeouts seems reasonable as one of my best bets.

Matthew Liberatore Over 4.5 Strikeouts -125 (BetMGM)

Liberatore is the Cardinals’ No. 5 prospect, and he is getting called up to make the start for the Red Birds tonight at home against the Brewers. Liberatore has gone over this number in every AAA start he has made this year, and the Brewers are a disaster against left-handed pitching. Milwaukee has the highest K% against lefties by a wide margin, and they average 7 Ks a game against left-handed pitching. This certainly fits the mold of best bets.
