Justin Steele Under 4.5 Strikeouts -140 (FanDuel)

Justin Steele has had an incredible start to the 2023 season, but the one aspect he is lacking is striking out batters. Steele has gone over this number in just 4/8 starts and not since the end of April. Steele is in the 34th percentile for K rate, the 37th for whiff%, and the 63rd for chase rate. Houston chases over the league average, but they are last in K rate against lefties and 23rd in K rate at home. Considering the only lefty to have 5 or more strikeouts against Houston was Max Fried, who blows away Steele’s percentile rankings in terms of strikeouts, I love the under here.

Zack Wheeler Over 6.5 Strikeouts -148 (FanDuel)

The Giants have struggled with striking out all season long, and they have a tough matchup today against Wheeler. Wheeler is in the 75th percentile for K rate, the 73rd for whiff%, and the 54th for chase rate. The Giants chase under the MLB average, but they whiff well above the MLB average. San Francisco is 2nd in the MLB in K rate against righties and 6th in K rate at home. Considering the Giants normally trot out seven batters who are below the 50th percentile in K rate, I like Wheeler to go over here.

Nick Pivetta Over 4.5 Strikeouts -165 (BetMGM)

Pivetta has not been racking up a ton of strikeouts this season, but this line seems low. Pivetta has gone over this number in 5/7 starts, and the Mariners are one of the easiest teams to strike out in baseball. Seattle is 2nd in K rate on the road and third in K rate against right-handed pitching. Considering the Mariners chase and whiff at a greater rate than the league average, I like Pivetta to go over this modest number tonight.
