NFL Week 8 – Jets vs Giants

The Jets and Giants face off at Met Life Stadium on Sunday for a little New York vs. New York action. The Jets are coming off the bye week and are three-point favorites over the Giants. The Giants beat the Commanders 14-7 last week for their second victory of the season. Who will win this matchup of New York teams that share a stadium? Let’s take a look at home to bet on the Jets vs Giants game on Sunday.

NFL Week 8 – Jets vs Giants

Why the Jets will win

New York is 3-3 this season without Aaron Rodgers, and the team must be thrilled. New York has played a terribly tough schedule so far this year, that being 3-3 even if Rodgers was still healthy, would have been considered a win. The Jets are coming off a bye week. Before the bye, the Jets beat the Eagles at home in a thrilling win. After Philly scored 14 first-half points and the Jets offense could not do anything, it seemed like New York had no chance. New York shutout Philly in the 2nd half, and they forced a crucial interception that led to their lone touchdown in a major victory. Zach Wilson is still their QB for now, which is always worrisome, but this defense is playing at a very high level.

With extra time to rest and prep, New York hopefully will be ready to go in this one. The Jets have the edge on defense and at the skill positions. On defense, New York’s defensive front should be a major problem for the Giants’ makeshift offensive line. If the Jets’ front can pressure Tyrod Taylor all game long, they can force some turnovers and secure the win that way. On offense, if the Jets can run the ball down the throat of a Giants’ defense that is one of the worst run defenses in the league, the Jets have two major edges in this game.

Why the Giants will win

New York is coming off a 14-7 win against the Commanders. The Giants scored just 14 points, all of them coming in the 2nd quarter, but this was one of the best games they have played this season. Wink Martindale dialed up every blitz under the sun, and the Giants’ defense suffocated the Commanders’ offense. New York put up 356 total yards, and they held the Commanders to 273 total yards and seven points. Tyrod Taylor was making plays, and the Giants had multiple gains over 20 yards in this matchup. Their defense is playing the best it has this season, and the offense finally showed some life.

Last week, we saw what Wink Martindale just did to Sam Howell. We can expect that Martindale will be dialing up blitzes, and Zach Wilson, behind this offensive line, should struggle similarly to Sam Howell. Martindale’s fastball as a DC is his blitz package, and he will use them snap after snap. When Wilson feels pressure, he takes bad sacks, makes poor decisions, and turns the football over. If Wink can do what he does best and get creative with blitz packages, the Jets’ offensive line should struggle to defend the Giants’ front, and Zach Wilson is no stranger to making poor decisions under pressure.

NFL Week 8 – Jets vs Giants – Prop Bet

Breece Hall, Jets, Over 67.5 Rushing Yards

Hall is healthy again, and he is the RB1 in the Jets offense. Hall is no stranger to big games; he already has 100+ yards in two outings this season. The Giants’ run defense is at the bottom of the NFL in success rate, DVOA, EPA, adjusted line yards, and more. The Jets should anticipate heavy blitzes, and New York should know Zach Wilson is bad in those situations. How can they alleviate the pressure? By getting the running game going. Hall has all the skill in the world to go over this number, and this matchup dictates he should receive most of the opportunities on offense throughout the game.

NFL Week 8 – Jets vs Giants Prediction

After breaking down this matchup, the edge lies with the Giants. The Jets are the better team, but teams coming off a bye a generally overvauled in the market. Zach Wilson is one of the worst QBs in the NFL, not just this season but since he entered the NFL. Do you really want to lay three points with him? Getting the Giants +3, or even better in a teaser at +8.5, is a great way to bet this game.
