MLB Player Props – Best Bets for Saturday, April 8th

Another day, another loaded slate full of exciting MLB games. All 30 teams are set to play today, meaning there is ample opportunity to make a profit in the player prop market today.

Which player props should you lock in today? Let’s take a look.

MLB Player Props – Best Straight Bets

Cole Irvin Over 4.5 Strikeouts +130 (FanDuel)

I am not entirely sure how this bet is plus money, but I will certainly take it and not look back. Irvin is not a massive strikeout pitcher, and he had just four in his debut against Boston, but I think he can get to five today against the Yankees. New York has a 22.4% K rate against lefties this season, which isn’t terrible, but I think a larger sample size will expose this team against lefties. They bat just .182 so far this year with a lefty on the bump, and a lot more of those outs could easily come as Ks. I like Irvin, at plus money, in this spot a lot.

Eric Lauer Under 5.5 Strikeouts -128 (FanDuel)

Eric Lauer got off to a hot start this season by fanning six Cubs in his season debut. However, I do not expect strikeout success to occur today against the Cardinals. Lauer has never gone over this number in seven starts against St. Louis dating back to 2018. The Cardinals have the lowest K rate in all of baseball, and they have the lowest K rate against lefties with a measly 10.5%. I do not expect Lauer to start ringing up the Cardinals all of the sudden.

Martin Perez Over 4.5 Strikeouts -142 (FanDuel)

Perez opened the season on a great note, and I expect that momentum to continue in today’s matchup against the Cubs. Perez, a lefty, fanned seven Phillies in his first start. Currently, the Phillies are 17th in K rate against lefties, and today Perez faces the Cubs, who are third in K rate against left-handed pitching. I am not overthinking this one – I will gladly take the hot pitcher to have just five Ks against a team that does not see or hit lefties well at all.

MLB Player Props – Best Same Game Parlay

St. Louis Cardinals @ Milwaukee Brewers +442

As I noted earlier, we are riding with Lauer not to mow down a bunch of Cardinals, so I am building this same game parlay around him. To finish this off, I can see Goldschmidt making today a shorter day for Lauer by going yard. Goldy is just 3-14 against Lauer in his career, but two of those three hits were home runs. If Goldschmidt can connect today, odds are it’s a long, deep, home run ball.
