On Sunday, the Chargers head to the East Coast to take on the Patriots. Both of these teams are coming off tough losses, and neither team has a shot to make serious noise this season. New England’s season has been done for several weeks, but they keep finding new ways to lose, and this team keeps reaching new lows. Los Angeles is in a similar boat, though their woes are not as drastic. Which team has an edge in this matchup of two bottom feeders? Let’s dive in.

Another week, another disappointing loss for the Chargers. This team can never be on the same page. Either their offense explodes, and their defense can’t stop anyone, or their defense keeps them in the game, and the offense cannot score. Sunday night was the latter. The Chargers turned it over four times yet still held the Ravens to just 20 points in a 20-10 loss at home. Los Angeles only could muster 279 yards of offense, and they scored a single touchdown in the fourth quarter.
The good news is that they play New England this weekend. The Patriots are a wreck. New England was down three in the fourth quarter and opted to play for the field goal. New England took short gains after being in the Giants’ territory, and they kept their timeouts to try and kick a short field goal with no time left and send the game to overtime. Instead, they missed a 35-yard field goal, and the game ended. Mac Jones was benched again after another terrible half of football, and Bailey Zappe was not much better.
This is a totally lost season, and the Patriots look worse and worse every time they step on the field. New England is a six-point home underdog, and despite their terrible play this season, they have owned the lifetime series against the Chargers. New England is 9-1 SU and 8-2 ATS in their L10 games against the Chargers. Those games went 6-4 to the under. Los Angeles is 0-7 SU and ATS in their L7 games against New England. However, based on the state of this Patriots team, it is impossible to back them at this point in the season. Also, the Chargers have not shown us anything for us to believe they can win by margin, especially on the road.
Chargers vs Patriots – Prediction
As you can see, this is a tough game to handicap. The Chargers are in a tough spot in New England, but the Patriots are so bad they are impossible to back. Our numbers have this as a closer game and we show value with New England. It will be a tough one to stomach, but it is indeed a good bet.
