2023 NFL Defensive Player of the Year Odds and Best Bets

The NFL’s preseason starts this week, and now is the time to start digging into the awards markets.

When it comes to futures markets, you do not need to bet on just one player, and you should also keep adding bets throughout the season. Think of future bets like building a portfolio. If you have four players to win at 20-1, and one of your four players wins, you are profiting a lot even though you just lost three other bets.

Here’s a look at 2023 NFL Defensive Player of the Year odds from DraftKings Sportsbook and discuss some good bets to make now.

2023 NFL Defensive Player of the Year – The Favorites

Micha Parsons, EDGE, Dallas Cowboys +650

In his two seasons as an NFL player, Micha Parsons has already established himself as one of the best players in the entire sport. In 17 games last season, Parason had three passes defended, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, a touchdown, 13.5 sacks, 65 tackles, 26 QB hits, and 13 hurries. If that sounds like stuffing the stat sheet, it’s because that’s exactly what it is. Given Parsons’ talent and his ability to play in various situations across different defensive alignments, he certainly warrants being the favorite to win this award.

Myles Garrett, EDGE, Cleveland Browns, +750

Garrett has lived up to the hype of being the No. 1 pick, and somehow he continues to get better each and every season. Last season in 16 games, Garrett had 16 sacks, 26 QB hits, and 18 tackles for loss, and he finished No. 1 in PFF grade of all EDGE defenders. Garrett’s unique size, speed, and strength make him a menace, and considering the Browns have bolstered their defensive line, Garrett may see more one on ones than ever in his career. Opposing QBs should be scared, and bettors should certainly consider Garrett for this award.

TJ Watt, LB, Pittsburgh Steelers +850

Watt took home this award two seasons ago, and his versatility is a huge reason why he is such a good player. Watt played in just ten games last season, but based on his numbers when he’s healthy, counting out Watt would be foolish. He’s proven 20+ sacks are on the table for him any season, and with that kind of elite production, Watt being chalk to win this award certainly checks out.

2023 NFL Defensive Player of the Year – Value Bets

Aaron Donald, DL, Los Angeles Rams +2500

The odds are the Rams are going to be a bad team this season, and that increases the likelihood that Aaron Donald is traded. Does that hurt his chances of winning this award? I’m not sure, but I do know Donald is a four-time winner of this award, should be healthy after playing just 11 games last season, and is the undisputed best DL in the NFL now and is an all-time great. Have fun fading Donald if you like, but at 32 years old, I think it would be foolish to assume he does not have one more dominant season in his tank.

Rashan Gary, EDGE, Green Bay Packers +5000

This is a long shot, but it also has merit. Gart played just nine games last season, and he still finished as the No. 15 EDGE, according to PFF. This is Gary’s fifth year, and while the Packers can franchise tag him, Gary should be looking for a bag this offseason, and I think he can prove that he is worth it. Gary had just six sacks in nine games, but he also had 12 QB hits, seven tackles for loss, and five hurries. Give Gary a full season, and he can certainly shock the NFC North.

2023 NFL Defensive Player of the Year – Longshot Bet

Kamren Curl, Saftey, Washington Commanders +100000

Kurl is not a household name, but he should be. The 7th-round pick finished at No. 2 of all safties according to PFF, and he is arguably the best player on Washington’s loaded defense. In just 12 games last season, Curl has 83 tackles, a sack, two touchdowns, and a 5.5 DADOT. This is a longshot for a reason, but all things considered, this is one of the most talented football players no one is talking about.
