Phoenix Suns vs Memphis Grizzlies Analysis
Memphis is in the midst of its first mini losing streak in almost a month. The Grizzlies had won seven in a row before stumbling at Oklahoma City and Denver in the first two stops of this four-game road swing. Memphis has not been offering much value on the road, where it has dropped 10 of its last 12 vs. the number.
Meanwhile, it’s too bad we haven’t seen Devin Booker this week for Phoenix after his 58-point showcase last Saturday vs. the Pelicans, but a groin strain has kept him out since and likely again tonight. Phoenix is coming off an embarrassing home loss where the Suns handed the Wizards their first win in ten games.
Not having Booker is certainly a concern, but the Suns still have Chris Paul and enough firepower to compensate for absences. Plus, having three days to stew about the humiliation of the Washington loss should provide a good response tonight.
Both of these teams rank in the top-5 in adjusted net rating, but they have gotten it done in two opposite ways. Phoenix ranks third in offensive efficiency and inside the top-10 in shooting efficiency, both at the rim and from beyond the arc. Memphis has gotten things done on the defensive side of the ball where the Grizzlies rank No. 3 in effective field goal percentage allowed.
Phoenix is 14-4 straight-up at home this season, and the Suns are playing better defense at home where they holding opponents to just 108 points per game. Memphis is just 3-10 against the spread away from home this year, and the Grizzlies are allowing 116.5 points on average, which is more than five points higher than their season average.
