Jacksonville Jaguars Running Out of the Tunnel

NFL Week 16 will kick off in the Meadowlands as the New York Jets host the surging Jacksonville Jaguars. Zach Wilson will get his second-straight start for Gang Green, and weather forecasts are not looking too kind for the New York-New Jersey area on Thursday night. Sportsmemo NFL handicapper Eric Pauly shares three player prop angles to take a look at.

New York Jets vs Jacksonville Jaguars Prop Betting Angles

Garrett Wilson to Score a Touchdown (+175)

Garrett Wilson has had a solid rookie campaign, and I expect him to hit paydirt on Thursday. Wilson only has four touchdowns this season, and they came in just two games, but I like him to score against this Jacksonville defense. Wilson has seen eight, 15, seven and nine targets in his last four games. He has been playing around 90-percent of offensive snaps each week since Week 8. His talent is undeniable, and with such high usage, he should have plenty of chances to score against a horrible Jaguars passing defense.

Evan Engram Over 45.5 Receiving Yards (-110)

Evan Engram has had a resurgent season with the Jaguars, and I expect a solid night from the veteran tight end. Engram has eclipsed this number six times this season, and in each of his last two games. Engram has been a security blanket for Lawrence, and I expect this duo to link up a few times on Thursday. Engram has seen 32 targets in his last three games and plays around 80-percent of offensive snaps for the Jaguars. With wet and windy conditions expected, look for Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars’ offense to utilize Engram a lot in the short passing game.

Travis Etienne to Score Two Touchdowns (+550)

Travis Etienne is the No. 1 rushing option for the Jaguars, and I can see him finding the endzone twice on Thursday night. The Jets are 15th in the NFL in allowing rushing touchdowns. Etienne plays around 75-percent of snaps, and he gets goal-line carries for the Jaguars. He has not scored since Week 9, but he can get into the end zone on the ground or through the air. I expect him to have a big game, even against a tough defense.

New York Jets vs Jacksonville Jaguars Analysis

From this week’s Football GoldSheet Newsletter: After a mostly uplifting campaign, the Jets have lost three-straight and four of five putting their playoff hopes in real jeopardy. While Zach Wilson didn’t completely implode in his return to the starting lineup after being pulled last month, he didn’t do enough to earn the victory last week against Detroit. Off-target throws and poor decisions have been a staple of Wilson’s young career, but it seems that he has earned the lukewarm support of head coach Robert Saleh.

The suddenly-surging Jags are starting to win games they always used to lose, such as the wild overtime success vs. the Cowboys last week that has the feel of a turning-point game. Trevor Lawrence is still making the occasional mistake but he is starting to show the promise that came along with being the No. 1 pick a couple seasons ago. Jacksonville’s bend-but-don’t-break defense came up with the big plays when needed last week against Dallas, just as the previous week when forcing four turnovers against the Titans. Keep an eye on the Jaguars’ injury report as both starting tackles (Jawan Taylor and Cam Robinson) went down vs. the Cowboys.
