New Orleans Pelicans vs Orlando Magic Analysis

Both New Orleans and Orlando had off on Sunday, so we should see a full compliment of players for both teams. Zion Williamson remains out for the Pelicans, but his availability for the rest of the regular season is beginning to look doubtful. The Magic are 25-36 this year, but most would say this season is a success. It looks like they nailed the Paulo Banchero draft pick, and Franz Wagner and Markelle Fultz look like they will be solid long-term starters. The Magic have only had a player score 30+ points seven times this season, so their (moderate) success has been built on team efforts. They beat Denver (with Nikola Jokic) two weeks ago. When Wagner and Banchero are clicking, Orlando is a threat to win just about any game.

The Pelicans are barely holding onto their spot in the Western Conference play-in games, but they have lost four out of five with their lone win being a three-point win against Oklahoma City. Brandon Ingram has been the leading scorer for this team in six-straight games and they are in a strange scheduling spot where they have played four-straight road games, but they play at home tonight before going on the road for three more road games. The Pelicans could be in for a tough night scoring as Orlando’s defensive efficiency has been top-seven in the NBA over the last ten games.

We’re going to look toward the player prop market with Markelle Fultz’s point total has been set at 14.5. He is 8-2 to the over on this total this month, and the Pelicans just gave up 45 points to Brunson and Barrett on the perimeter against the Knicks. Gary Trent for Toronto and D’Angelo Russell for the Lakers have also enjoyed successful nights against the Pelicans’ defense in recent weeks. Guards, in particular, have done well against the Pelicans’ defense recently, and we’ll look toward Markelle Fultz to continue that trend.
