MLB Player Props – Best Bets for 5/8

After an exciting weekend of baseball action, we are back with the best MLB player props for Monday’s slate. We have 11 games today, and all 11 matchups are the start of a new series. Let’s dive into the best MLB player props for today.

Best MLB Player Props Today

Kyle Gibson Under 4.5 Strikeouts -165 (BetMGM)

Gibson is not a strikeout pitcher whatsoever, and he has a tough matchup to rack up strikeouts against today. In his career vs. the current Rays’ roster, Gibson has a 16.7% strikeout rate. On the season, he has only gone over this number twice. He is in the 13th percentile for K rate, the 21st for whiff%, and the 42nd for chase rate. The Rays chase and strike out a decent amount, but they are familiar with the veteran and his stuff. Asking Gibson to get five strikeouts is a tall task.

Anthony DeScalfani Over 4.5 Strikeouts +115 (BetMGM)

DeScalfani is not a huge strikeout pitcher, and the Nationals do not strike out often, but this is a prime sport for DeScalfani to go over this number. Washington’s offense currently has the 2nd lowest strikeout rate on the road and the 3rd lowest strikeout rate against right-handed pitching. However, is this sustainable? The Nationals chase pitches above the league average, and DeScalfani is in the 67th percentile for chase rate. He has gone over this number in four of six starts this year, and he has had success against other lineups that do not strike out as well. Five is not a lot of Ks, and I like DeScalfani to go over five strikeouts at plus money.

Jon Gray Under 5.5 Strikeouts -105 (BetMGM)

It’s no secret that the Mariners strike out a lot. Seattle is 4th in K rate against right-handed pitching, and they are 8th in K rate at home. Seattle has just three players on its projected starting lineup who are above the 50th percentile in K rate. So, why are we betting Gray’s under? Because he is no longer the same pitcher. Gray is in the 8th percentile in K rate, the 25th in whiff%, and the 51st in chase rate. He has gone over this number just one time this season, on Opening Day against the Orioles. When Gray does get strikeouts, it is from chases, and Seattle chases below the league average.
