Giants vs. Dodgers: Analysis

After taking game one of this series 9-1, the Dodgers put up a three-hit stinker yesterday and dropped the game 5-0. Los Angeles is just 6-6 so far this season, and the Giants are 5-6.

Clayton Kershaw will take the mound for the Dodgers, and Alex Cobb will take the bump for the Giants. Does Kershaw have a vintage pitching performance in him against a divisional rival?

Giants vs. Dodgers: Giants Preview

The Giants have not had a great start to the season, but they were not expected to have a great season. San Francisco has been abysmal against left-handed pitching, and that is exactly what they face tonight. San Francisco has a 48 wRC+, a -0.4 WAR, a 38.5% K rate, and a .193 batting average against left-handed pitching.

Alex Cobb will make the start for the Giants tonight at home. In his two starts this season, Cobb has pitched 10.2 innings and has allowed three earned runs on 11 hits with 12 strikeouts. In his career against the Dodgers, Cobb is 0-1 with a 4.98 ERA and 21 strikeouts in four starts.

Giants vs. Dodgers: Dodgers Preview

Los Angeles has not had a great start to the season, but there is no reason to be concerned about this team. Los Angeles is still mashing, and their pitching staff has still been great, so it is only a matter of time before this ball club wakes up.

Clayton Kershaw will make his third start of the season tonight against the Giants. In Kershaw’s last start against the Diamondbacks, he allowed four runs on two home runs, seven total hits, two walks, and four strikeouts in six innings of work. However, it was the second time Arizona had seen him already this season. Considering how poorly the Giants do against left-handed pitching this season, this should be a great opportunity for Kershaw.

Giants vs. Dodgers: Prediction

Based on the way the Giants hit against lefties, it is impossible to back them against a lefty until we start to see some progression from this team. The Dodgers had just three hits last night, so I believe their bats will wake up tonight.

Prediction: Dodgers ML -160
