Boston Celtics vs Brooklyn Nets Analysis
The Brooklyn Nets upped their record to 31-19 on the season after winning their second straight game against the Lakers on Monday. Brooklyn had a tremendous shooting advantage as they went 45-95 for 47.4-percent compared to LA going only 35-89 for 39.3-percent. Kyrie Irving was the game’s leading scorer with 26 points along with 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Cam Thomas and Patty Mills scored 21 a piece off the bench while Royce O’Neale chipped in with 14 points and 6 rebounds.
The Nets currently occupy the 4th seed in the Eastern Conference, 4.5 games behind the first place Celtics. They sit just above average in scoring at 14th with 114.6 points a game on a league best 50.9% from the field. Kevin Durant, Ben Simmons and TJ Warren have all been ruled out for this contest while Yuta Watanabe is questionable due to back tightness.
The Boston Celtics improved to 36-15 after their second straight overtime victory at home against the Lakers. Los Angeles felt that Boston got away with a foul on LeBron James at the end of regulation and Boston did have a 39-20 advantage in attempts at the charity stripe. Jaylen Brown led his team in scoring with 37 points on 13-23 from the field along with 9 rebounds. Jayson Tatum wasn’t far behind him with 30 points and 11 rebounds while Malcolm Brogdon added 26 points off the bench.
The Celtics have the NBA’s best record and have a two game edge on the second-place Milwaukee Bucks. Boston ranks third in scoring with 117.8 points a game on 47.2-percent from the floor. Their defense continues to improve as they currently rank fifth in defensive rating and 11th in defensive scoring with only 112.3 points allowed per game. Marcus Smart is the only player listed on the injury report and his timetable to return is unclear.
Both teams await the return of key players from injury, however the Nets are missing their superstar Kevin Durant. The Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum has been stuffing the stat sheet with more than just points. His Rebounds + Assists total is set at 13.5 and he has eclipsed that mark in nine of his last ten games with 13 exactly in the only other game. Tatum has recorded 16 and 12 rebounds + assists in his two games against the Nets for an average of 14 per game. Without Smart involved, Tatum has more assist opportunities and without Durant and Simmons there will be more rebounding opportunities tonight.
