Zack Wheeler Under 6.5 Strikeouts -109 (BetRivers)

Zack Wheeler has gone over this number in three of six starts this season, but I do not expect him to do so again today. The Red Sox have the lowest strikeout rate against right-handed pitching in all of baseball. In 21 games against righty-starters this season, Boston is averaging just 3.76 Ks. Wheeler’s ability to get strikeouts is more dependent on him getting whiffs, and Boston whiffs the 2nd least out of any team in the MLB. Despite Wheeler being a K pitcher, I will gladly take the under here.

Chris Bassitt Under 5.5 Strikeouts -155 (DraftKings)

Bassitt has gone over this number just twice this year, and I do not expect him to do it a third time tonight in Pittsburgh. Bassitt is in the 33rd percentile for K rate, the 12th for whiff%, and the 22nd for chase rate. Not only that, but Bassitt is in the 23rd for xERA/xwOBA, 33rd for barrel percentage, and 32nd for xSLG percentage, meaning he is a candidate to get hit hard and chased from the game early. The Pirates have a 21.9% K rate at home and a 21.7% K rate vs. left-handed pitching. I love the under here.

Kodai Senga Over 5.5 Strikeouts -145 (BetMGM)

Kodai Senga has had command issues since coming to the Mets, but while his walks are up, so are his strikeouts. Senga has gone over this number in four of five starts this season, and he is in the 71st percentile for K rate, the 68th for whiff%, but the 17th for chase rate. The Rockies have never seen the rookie or his ghost fork, and I expect them to have trouble hitting it. The Rockies have a 23.6% K rate against right-handed pitching and a 27.1% K rate on the road – the third highest in baseball. Considering the Rockies whiff above the MLB average, I expect Senga to dominate today.
