New York Mets at Los Angeles Dodgers

After sweeping the lowly Athletics in Oakland, the Mets head to Los Angeles for a three-game series with the Dodgers. Los Angeles is coming off a 2-1 series loss at home against the Cubs, and the only game they won in the series was on a walk-off hit. While the Mets swept the A’s, their last two games were not impressive either. However, all things considered, I expect the Mets to come out and beat the Dodgers in game one of the series tonight.
Both of these teams were expected to be powerhouses in the National League, and despite their decent records, neither of these teams are playing good baseball. The Mets’ offense has been inconsistent, and the bottom of the Dodgers’ order is abysmal.
Dustin May will make the start for the Dodgers at home tonight against the Mets. In May’s last start, he allowed two runs on two hits with four walks and three strikeouts. On the season, May is 1-1 with a 1.47 ERA and a 3.16 FIP with 12 strikeouts and seven walks in 18.1 innings pitched. The Mets’ current roster is batting .333 against May in 19 plate appearances with a .313 wOBA, a 21.1% K rate, and a .311 xSLG.
Lefty David Peterson will make the start for the visiting Mets. In Peterson’s last start, he allowed two runs on six hits with six strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work. On the season, Peterson is 0-2 with a 4.91 ERA and a 4.55 FIP, and he has struck out 16 and walked eight batters in 14.2 innings of work. The Dodgers’ current roster is hitting .265 against Peterson in 36 plate appearances with a .323 wOBA, a 25% K rate, and a .415 xSLG.
On the season, the Mets are seeing righties very well, though they are not hitting them all too well. The Mets have the lowest strikeout percentage against right-handed pitching, and they have the highest walk percentage against right-handed pitching. Their wRC+ is not too crazy at just 98, but certainly serviceable.
The Dodgers have been decent against left-handed pitching, but they were diced up by lefty Wade Miley just last night. All things considered, I think the edge lies with the visiting New York Mets.
