Attention College Hoop Fanatics: Updated TGS Special Ticker!

(Conference tourney notes updated March 7...)
ALABAMA...Banged-up jr. PG Ronald Steele (knees/ankle) won’t be 100% against Kentucky, but he’ll try to play in the first round of the SEC tourney on Thursday after missing nearly all of the previous 3 games. Bama had 20 turnovers during its 24-point loss at Mississippi State in the regular-season finale. However, late-breaking news out of Atlanta finds 6-10, 240 sr. F Jermareo Davidson (14 ppg, 8.4 rpg, 2.4 bpg) unable to practice on Wednesday due to a sore back. Davidson is questionable for the key clash against the Wildcats. BAYLOR...6-
9 soph F Kevin Rogers (13 ppg on 53% FGs, 8 rpg), the Bears’ top low-post threat, was back at practice earlier this week, but he’s still questionable for the Big XII tourney opener vs. Missouri Thursday night. Rogers sat out home win over Oklahoma State in the regular-season finale with a sprained ankle. Remember, Baylor is already without valuable 6-6 sr. F Tim Bush (7 ppg, 4 rpg), who was lost to a foot fracture in mid-February. BUFFALO...Soph G Eric Moore (13 ppg), the Bulls’ second-leading scorer and the MAC leader in 3-pointers made with 75, sat out the last 2 games and will not play in the conference tourney. Insiders say the disgruntled Moore plans to transfer after the season is over. CENTRAL MICHIGAN...6-8, 240 soph F Chris Kellermann (10 ppg, 3 rpg, 45% treys) is back in action after missing 6 weeks with an ankle injury. In his first game back, Kellermann had 16 points (including 5 of 7 from beyond the three-point arc) and 5 rebounds in 21 minutes off the bench during the Chippewas’ 87-83 OT home loss to rival Eastern Michigan March 2. However, he had only 6 points & 3 rebounds in 21 minutes off the bench during the next game, a 20-point loss at Toledo last Sunday. COLORADO...The Buffs will be without key 6-5 frosh Xavier Silas (12 ppg, 4 rpg), their second-leading scorer, when they take on Bobby Knight’s Texas Tech squad in the first round of the Big XII tourney on Thursday. Silas earned an automatic one-game suspension when he was ejected for fighting during the regular-season finale, a rare CU win at Nebraska. DAYTON...Frosh G Marcus Johnson (7 ppg, 3.7 rpg) is questionable vs. Xavier after turning his ankle during the Flyers’ first-round A-10 tourney win over Charlotte. DUKE...6-4 frosh swingman Gerald Henderson (above right), whose father won a couple of NBA titles with the Boston Celtics in the 1980s, won’t be available vs. North Carolina State when the ACC tourney tips off this Thursday. Henderson, an emerging scorer (31 points in last 2 games) & sticky perimeter defender (like his dad), will serve a one-game suspension for his endlessly-scrutinized foul on North Carolina’s Tyler Hansbrough at the end of the Blue Devils’ loss in last Sunday’s regular-season finale at Chapel Hill. DUQUESNE...Frosh G Stephen Wood, who averages 15 mpg in head coach Ron Everhart’s 10-man rotation, did not play in last Saturday’s loss at Xavier and is not expected to be available vs. Saint Louis in the first round of the A-10 tourney after his father passed away last week.
FLORIDA STATE...Good news for the Seminoles, as soph PG Toney Douglas (13 ppg, 43% treys) has returned to action in time for the ACC tournament. Douglas contributed 13 points (including 2 of 3 beyond the arc), 4 rebounds & assists in 32 minutes off the bench during the Seminoles’ OT win at Miami in the regular-season finale after he had missed the previous 5 games with hand fracture. GEORGIA TECH...Backup sr. PG Mario West missed practice yesterday due to a bout with the flu, but head coach Paul Hewitt says the valuable West should be ready to go for the Yellow Jackets’ first-round tilt against Wake Forest when the ACC tourney tips off Thursday. LOUISVILLE...Back spasms have kept 6-8, 250 jr. Juan Palacios (9 ppg, 5.7 rpg) on the sidelines the last 3 games, and he’s unlikely to play in the Cards’ first Big East tourney game on Thursday. LSU...Star 6-9, 290 F/C Glen Davis (left; 18 ppg, 10.4 rpg) is back in action and ready for battle with Tennessee in first round of the SEC tournament on Thursday. Davis played 25 minutes off the bench (11 points, 7 boards) during home win over South Carolina in the Tigers’ regular-season finale after missing the previous 3 games with a thigh/quad injury. MARQUETTE...Scouts report that the Eagles will probably be without one of their super soph trio in tonight’s Big East tourney opener against St. John’s. 6-3 G Jerel McNeal (15 ppg, 5 rpg, 4 apg, 2.6 spg), the Big East Defensive Player of the Year, did not play in Saturday’s regular-season ending home win over Pittsburgh due to a thumb injury and is likely to remain sidelined against the Johnnies. Frosh G David Cubillan had 20 points (including 4 of 7 treys) and 5 rebounds in 26 minutes off the bench during the victory over the Panthers. NEBRASKA...Sharpshooting 6-4 soph G Ryan Anderson (10 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 43% treys) will be available for the first round of the Big XII tournament after sitting out the Huskers’ 85-73 home win over Oklahoma State in the regular-season finale Monday night. Anderson served an automatic one-game suspension against the Cowboys after he was ejected for fighting during Nebraska’s 73-69 loss at Colorado last Saturday. NEW MEXICO STATE...Sr. G Fred Peete (11 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 3 apg, 1.7 spg) is doubtful for Louisiana Tech Thursday after sitting out the previous 3 games with a chip fracture in his ankle. NORTH CAROLINA...Tar Heel star Tyler Hansbrough is expected to play in the upcoming ACC tourney, although he’ll likely be wearing a plastic facial mask to protect his fractured nose.
NORTHERN ILLINOIS...Jr. G Ryan Paradise (10 ppg, 43% treys) has missed the last 2 games and is questionable vs. Western Michigan tonight due to a sprained ankle. PROVIDENCE...Soph G Sharaud Curry (16 ppg, 4.6 apg), the Friars’ top perimeter threat, is expected to play
against West Virginia tonight, although insiders say a dislocated finger on his left (non-shooting) hand is causing Curry considerable discomfort. ST. JOHN’S...Stalwart 6-10, 240 sr. F Lamont Hamilton (13.4 ppg, 6.5 rpg), who’s one of the top low-post threats in the Big East, suffered a season-ending knee injury early in Sunday’s home win over Providence. SAINT JOSEPH’S...Scouts report that blossoming frosh G Darrin Govens practiced yesterday and should be ready for at least limited action tonight when the Hawks take on Temple in the first round of the A-10 tourney. Govens, who missed nearly all of the last 3 games with a sprained ankle, led SJU to 4 straight wins in mid-February, scoring double-digit points in each of those victories. STANFORD...Soph G Anthony Goods (left; 13 ppg), the Cardinal’s most prolific 3-point shooter, will be available against USC on Thursday after being sidelined the last 3 weeks with a severely sprained ankle. TCU...6-8 jr. F Alvarado Parker is trying to play through a sore knee, but he was limited to only 5 points & 3 boards in 21 minutes during the Horned Frogs’ win over New Mexico Tuesday night, well below his season averages of 9 ppg (on 55% FGs) & 6 rpg. TULSA...Jr. G Brett McDade (7 ppg, 3 apg) is questionable vs. East Carolina tonight due to a sprained ankle. UCLA...6-8 soph F/C Alfred Aboya (4.3 ppg, 4.4 rpg) is expected to be available Thursday when the Bruins swing into action in the Pac-10 tourney. Aboya sat out loss at Washington on Saturday because of a sore knee. VILLANOVA...Check status of stalwart sr. G Mike Nardi (13 ppg & 4 apg; started every game during the regular season) for Thursday’s tilt against Georgetown. Nardi (strained left calf) played only 2 minutes off the bench during the Wildcats’ first-round Big East tourney win over DePaul. WYOMING...The Cowboys’ frontline received a big boost recently, as 6-9, 260 sr. F/C Daaron Brown is back at full strength after missing most of the previous month with a lingering ankle sprain. Brown had 29 points & 11 rebounds in the last 2 games.
